How to import a Tripo model into Unity
Unity prefers FBX, and Tripo models convert to FBX cleanly from their original GLB. This guide walks from a Tripo link to a working Unity prefab, including the material and texture checks that save the most time.
Import Tripo into Unity, step by step
- 1
Download the Tripo model
Copy a studio.tripo3d.ai generate or community link you can open, analyze it in Tripo Grab, and download the original file first. Keep that original as your master copy.
- 2
Convert to FBX
Use the convert panel to make an FBX from the original. FBX is Unity’s most reliable import path for Tripo models, especially when you plan to animate or reuse the asset.
- 3
Drag the FBX into Unity
Drag the FBX into your Unity project’s Assets folder. Unity imports it automatically. Drag the imported model from Assets into your scene to create a prefab instance.
- 4
Check materials and textures
Select the model in Assets, open its Materials tab, and confirm the materials were created. If a texture is missing, import the texture zip you downloaded, then assign the albedo, normal and roughness maps to the matching material slots.
- 5
Fix scale before you build
Check the model’s scale in the Import Settings and in the scene. Tripo models vary in size, so set a consistent scale factor, apply it, and test the model next to a player character or reference object before you build levels around it.
Unity scale and material checks
- Use FBX for Unity, not OBJ, when you want materials and a clean hierarchy.
- Import textures into the same Assets folder as the FBX when possible, so Unity links them automatically.
- If the model is too large or too small, fix it in Import Settings, not by scaling every scene instance by hand.
Tripo to Unity questions
Why are Tripo textures missing in Unity?+
Usually the texture files were not imported with the FBX, or the material slots were not linked. Import the texture zip, then assign each map to its slot in the material inspector.
Can I use GLB directly in Unity?+
Unity does not import GLB natively in the same way it imports FBX. Convert to FBX for Unity, and keep the GLB as your master file for Blender or the web.
Does this work for animated Tripo models?+
It works for static Tripo models. If a model has animation, check the FBX import’s Animation tab in Unity and test the clip before relying on it in a build.
Try it on your own model
Paste a link you can already open, preview it, then download the format you need.
