How to import a Meshy model into Unity
Unity imports FBX most reliably, so the Meshy-to-Unity path is: download the original, convert that original to FBX in your browser, then import the FBX into Unity. This guide covers that path and the material fixes that come up most often.
Import Meshy into Unity, step by step
- 1
Download the Meshy model
Copy a meshy.ai link you can open, analyze it in Meshy Grab, and download the original file first. If the source is .meshy, it decrypts to GLB in your browser first.
- 2
Convert to FBX
Convert the original to FBX in the download panel. Converting from the original, not from an intermediate file, keeps materials and scale cleaner.
- 3
Drag the FBX into Unity
Drag the FBX into your Unity Assets folder. Unity imports it automatically. Drag it into the scene to create an instance, then check its size against a reference object.
- 4
Check materials and textures
Open the model’s Materials tab in Assets. If a texture is missing, import the texture zip and assign albedo, normal and roughness maps to the matching material slots.
Unity import checks
- Use FBX for Unity. GLB is your master file, FBX is your Unity working file.
- Fix scale in Import Settings, not by scaling dozens of scene instances.
- Keep textures in the same Assets folder as the FBX when possible.
Meshy to Unity questions
Why is my Meshy model grey in Unity?+
Usually a texture was not imported or not linked. Import the texture zip and assign each map to its material slot.
Should I use GLB directly in Unity?+
Unity does not import GLB natively like FBX. Convert to FBX for Unity and keep the GLB as the master file.
Try it on your own model
Paste a link you can already open, preview it, then download the format you need.
