How to import a Meshy model into Blender

Blender opens GLB natively through glTF 2.0, so the shortest path from Meshy to Blender is: download the model as GLB, import that one file, and check its materials. This guide covers the download, the import, and the two fixes that solve most import problems.

Import Meshy into Blender, step by step

  1. 1

Download the Meshy model as GLB

Follow the Meshy GLB guide: copy a meshy.ai link you can open, analyze it in Meshy Grab, and download the original GLB. Zip the PBR textures as well if the model has them.

  2. 2

    Import the GLB into Blender

In Blender, go to File > Import > glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf), choose the GLB you downloaded, and import it. The mesh, materials and textures should arrive together in one file.

  3. 3

    Check scale and orientation

Select the imported object and check its size and rotation in the viewport. Meshy models are often large or rotated for a viewer, so scale and rotate the object to fit your scene before you start modelling around it.

  4. 4

Fix materials if they look flat

If the model looks flat or grey, open the Shader Editor and check that the Principled BSDF has its Base Color, Normal and Roughness maps connected. Reconnect any map from the texture zip you downloaded, using the same file names as the original material.

Blender import fixes

  • Import GLB, not OBJ, when you want PBR materials to survive. OBJ drops much of the material setup.
  • Apply scale with Ctrl+A > Scale after you resize, so modifiers and exports behave predictably.
  • Keep the original GLB in your project folder. If you re-export later, start from it, not from an intermediate export.

Meshy to Blender questions

Why is my Meshy model grey in Blender?+

Usually a texture path or material link did not survive. Check the Shader Editor, reconnect the maps from the texture zip, and make sure the image files sit next to the GLB or in the path Blender expects.

Should I use GLB or FBX for Blender?+

GLB for most Meshy models. FBX is useful when you need to move a rigged model into a game engine, but for Blender alone, GLB keeps PBR materials cleaner.

Can I edit the mesh after import?+

Yes. Once imported, it is a normal Blender mesh. Edit, retopologize, or decimate it like any other model, and keep the original GLB untouched as your backup.

GLB vs FBX explained: GLB for Blender, the web and PBR in one file; FBX for Unity and Unreal. Also when OBJ, STL or 3MF is the right pick.
